Greetings, Parrot Toy Angel Supporters!

I'd like to extend a warm welcome to Lori, Gayla and Leigh, our newest angels, and Braden E., Daulton V., Cody S. and Melanie M., our four new "Junior Angels". I'd also like to welcome Kris & Nancy, our new "Ornament Fairies". We're very sad to see our old Ornament Fairy go, but we do understand that she must move on.

June was another very busy month for PTA. Final preparations are being made for the July 10th Birdie Shower. We have 4 angels planning to attend: it's going to be a very exciting event! We've just finished working on the Bailey Foundation in Boothwyn, PA (we'll have some pictures up on our website soon), and have more projects in the works. We've kicked off our Summer Parrot Toy Angels Raffle and we've got some great prizes for the winner. Drawing will be held July 14th, so don't forget to buy your tickets today!

My Angel Delivery to
BirdLove Avian Sanctuary

Our delivery story begins at our home in Charlotte, SC with the arrival of boxes from Angels across the USA and Canada. On the morning of January 28, 2006 George and I loaded our Honda Odyssey with the Angel boxes (and our new dog Shellee) and set out on the 90-mile journey to BirdLove Sanctuary.

We arrived safe and sound, and after a couple wrong turns (thanks to Mapquest), we finally pulled up to Jo's house, located on the outskirts of Columbia, SC. Jo greeted us warmly, introduced us to her rather fearsome looking dogs, who did not much like George (but let him pass anyway), and led us on a grand tour to see the place and meet the birds.

Jo's clean and bird-friendly facilities are a testimony of her dedication to her flock. A room just off the living room is home to a variety of birds frolicking in their indoor cages. Outside, there are a couple of very large and well-maintained outdoor aviaries and two rows of large zoo-type enclosures which were obtained as surplus from the Columbia Zoo. There was plenty of room for all and we enjoyed meeting all the birds.

After the tour, we unloaded the car and quickly filled Jo's living room with the boxes. Jo began to carefully open them and her face beamed with joy when she saw the toys. As she opened and admired each box, we told her a little something about the Angel who made the toys. Jo praised every Angel's talent and expressed her gratitude at the effort and generosity shown by all.

After a couple of hours of unpacking, oohing and ahhing, it was time for us to head back to Charlotte. We left full of the knowledge that our experience as Angels had taken on a new dimension. Seeing the results of our collective Angel effort really put an exclamation point on what our mission is all about. If you ever have an opportunity to participate in a delivery, do not pass it up! ♥

ANGEL NEWS
We are very pleased to announce that Parrot Toy Angels is now a Domestic Non-Profit Corporation in Texas. We will be obtaining our 501c3 Non-Profit Status in the near future.

Currently, we have 53 members throughout the USA, Canada & Australia and we also have 10 'Junior Angels' in our ranks.
We've sent out over 1,752 toys to 30+ projects since our inception on August 6, 2005.

The Importance of Toys

Playing and foraging in the wild are natural parrot behaviors, and these behaviors enhance a bird's physical and psychological health. Birds are intelligent, loving creatures that are perfectly adapted for their lives in the wild. As humans, we often forget these beings need challenges in their lives, and as their caregivers we should learn to spend time creating interesting ways to keep them occupied. Challenges are conducive to the development of a properly socialized bird, and they provide fun and stimulation as well.

Developing stimulating ideas has long been an enrichment goal for trainers and caregivers alike. If normal social interaction and activity with a parrot's human flock is limited, as is often the case, other challenges should be increased to fill the deficit. Offering exciting new toys and creative foraging ideas can keep our parrots entertained and content.

Our Angels generously donate their time making toys for our needy feathered friends. Quality toy-making supplies are expensive and shipping charges are outrageous. That's why we need your support to help keep us going. Every dollar amount, large or small, is gratefully accepted.

You don't have to be a member to make a donation, and as a special offer, we're offering the choice of any toy with a $50 donation or the choice of any 3 toys with a $100 donation. This offer does not include our two special fundraiser toys: Hope & Birdie Delight Necklace.
